Been thinking about church growth lately. It's what pastors do and what healthy churches do, GROW that is. Part of the population who we are reaching out to don't want anything to do with many churches. The problem seems to be authenticity. Jesus gave the command to LOVE ONE ANOTHER, and frankly many, maybe me are not loving.
Here is a good article that i found today that helps to give some perspective. The line that sticks out is this one, and it more than sticks out, it punches, then kicks you while you are down, and then grinds your heart into the dirt once your heart is on the ground. Anyway...
Rachel Held Evans says in her article,"You can't hand us a latte and then go about business as usual and expect us to stick around. We're not leaving the church because we don't find the cool factor there; we're leaving the church because we don't find Jesus there."
That is pretty convicting to a pastor.
I wish I could find a way to pass that on to more people....
Hmm, Sunday's coming.
